I was only able to attend one day of New Bedford’s Summerfest this year. It’s one of the best organized and most eclectic music and crafts festivals around…and one of the most affordable. The fest has a half dozen different stages scattered all over downtown New Bedford. Vendors line the streets so people who don’t purchase the wristband to enter the stage areas can still meander all over town and view all the amazing crafts. I’m sorry that I didn’t take many pictures this year. I went for the music and squeezed in as much as I could!

What I love about Summerfest is that I’m sure to find some tried and true favorites as well as some new musicians to get to know and appreciate!
One of the highlights for me was seeing Peter Mulvey on the main Custom House Stage. He asked extraordinary fiddler, Jeremy Kittel, to accompany him on some tunes. No rehearsal. Absolute magic!

Another favorite from the North Shore, Peabody’s own Bob Franke, appeared on several stages throughout the weekend.

The band that I had marked on my schedule was a must see—-the Deadly Gentlemen from Boston. So much talent in this group. It’s difficult to describe their music. It has tinges of bluegrass, folk, jazz, even rap. A definite MUST SEE AGAIN for me!

I saw Zoe Lewis for the first time last year and was delighted that they asked her back this year. I got to see many other sides of her talent and got two friends to become new fans! I love when that happens!
