Every year about two dozen acts vie for the opportunity to be voted the MOST WANTED at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY. The audience votes for their favorites and those acts get to return to the main stage the following year. A preview of the tour played at Club Passim recently—three of four of the acts each gave the audience a chance to hear them play their best material.
First up was Louise Mosrie and her awesome accompanist, Anna Uptain. She played a very soulful set and was a joy to hear. I had missed her at the last year’s festival due to the extreme heat. (I don’t do well in three digit temps.)
Next up was ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You) from Baltimore. They are an energetic act with a cool percussive jazzy beat and interesting lyrics. Definitely not your grandparents’ folk music!
Capping off the evening we were entertained by Pesky J. Nixon, our local band made good. The band is comprised of Ethan Baird on vocals and guitar; Jake Bush on accordion and vocals; Dan Carp on percussion and vocals; and Eric McDonald on mandolin and vocals. They’re always a lot of fun. Trust me.
A great evening of music …. only a couple more weeks until Falcon Ridge! For more information about the festival go to:
